Our Child Development 479 (Policy and Advocacy) class will be in Sacramento from Tuesday, April 22, 2014 until Thursday, April 24, 2014. On Wednesday we have a full agenda of activities and informational hearings that we will attend. Each member of the class has the flexibility to choose their activities for the day and what to advocate for.
The entire class, however, will be attending two sub-committee hearings on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at the California State Capitol. Those sub-committee hearings are as follows:
- California State Senate Education Committee, which meets Wednesday at 9 AM in room 4203.
Their jurisdiction includes bills relating to education, higher education, and certificated educational personnel.
- California State Assembly on Education, which meets on Wednesday at 1:30 PM in room 126.
Their jurisdiction includes education generally, certificated employees of schools, school finance, and school facilities.
Our advocacy group is researching the bills that will be heard in these sub-committee hearings on Wednesday, April 23, 2014. We are preparing letters that advocate for children and families in relation to education that we will present to the committee members of both the California State Senate and the Assembly.
